Morack Public Golf Course Review
Date played: 22/12/2015
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Morack Golf Course is a public, 18 hole course situated in Vermont South, approximately 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. It was originally opened as a 9 hole course in 1976, by 1980 it consisted of a full 18 holes.
THE COURSE LAYOUT
Currently, the course is a par 70, playing 5247 metres with five par 3s, ten par 4s and three par 5s.
This course is popular with beginner golfers and is a perfect starting point for those new to the game. There are a number of holes which are not overly demanding and are great scoring opportunities for the more serious golfer. These include the reachable 270m, downhill par 4 (5th), the 280m par 4 (8th), the short par 3 (10th), and the par 4 (11th), which all provide golfers the opportunity to make par or better without playing a miracle shot.
Morack also provides more of a challenge for golfers of all abilities on certain holes, including the 470m, dogleg par 5 (2nd), the 178m par 3 (4th), the severe dogleg left (9th) and also the narrow par 4 (14th), with a slice often sending the ball OB.
Morack golf course boasts a number of high-quality holes in terms of layout, and condition of the fairway, green, hazards etc, my personal favourites being the 2nd, 8th, 9th, and the 18th. These holes are the best the course has to offer, holes which we found satisfying both ascetically and in terms of playability.
COURSE CONDITION
The condition of the course varies greatly from hole to hole, but generally very well kept for a public course with most of holes having lush, green fairways, however on some the fairways are yellow, dusty and dry. These fairways can also be uneven with areas having limited grass covering, meaning good shots which find the fairway can go unrewarded by next having to play from a tight lie, which is frustrating for the player. The fairways which are poorly maintained are a factor which detracts from the quality of this course.
Another issue we had with the course was related to the maintenance of the course interfering with the round. When on the 11th green, the sprinklers began operating causing us and our playing partners to get wet, as well as our clubs etc. This was an inconvenience which I assume rarely occurs however it did detract from our experience.

An Example of the poorer and better sections of the course.
OTHER FACILITIES
Morack Golf Course also provides a large driving range which is undercover and floodlit which allows golf practice to be available in all conditions.
Morack has a large pro shop featuring an acceptable array of gear including clothing, clubs, buggies, balls and other accessories. Additionally, there are change rooms and bathrooms that are always very clean which are available for use.
Lastly, there are numerous drink taps scattered around the course along with a toilet located at the end of the 8th hole.
COST
Morack Golf Course offers great value for money, especially the pay for 9, play 18 special which is valid from 2 pm onwards every day.

OVERALL
Morack Golf Course is the perfect place for beginner golfers to start out and work on their craft, however, the more accomplished and experienced golfer’s time is probably better spent playing on one of the better courses in Melbourne. Despite this, Morack does have something to offer the better golfer and is worth playing at least once due to its convenient location for those located within the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.
